Lend a hand to middle and high school students who need extra help: Tutors and mentors are needed for second language learners and other students at our after-school programs at Deal Middle School and Wilson High School. This is near the Tenleytown Metro station! Only a TWO-HOUR PER WEEK commitment! Choose to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Volunteers will help students with their homework and lead educational enrichment activities. Most students in the program have been identified by their teachers as struggling in school and in need of extra help. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! TB TEST and BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED, however.

Become a Supplemental Services Provider (SES) tutor. LAYC has been approved by the city to be an SES provider. We offer tutoring services at several District of Columbia schools. Do you have childcare experience? Help us to provide childcare for parents who are participating in our programs. We need help from responsible people who love children to come work at our main building on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-7pm. Help make the holidays special for the youth and families we serve: Every year we serve a full Thanksgiving Dinner to participants in our programs and the community at large. We always need a lot of help in serving the dinner, organizing the entertainment for the evening, setting up the “dining” room, and, of course, in clean up. This year, our dinner will be served on Tuesday November 25th. We will need volunteers from about 4 – 8 p.m. We will assign you a shift so it is possible that you do not have to stay for the whole time. We also throw a large year-end Holiday Party for youth and their families. This year’s party is Thursday December 18h.
